Most new io games are not bad, they are unfinished — and the tells are the same every time. None of them require playing well, or for long.

• How long until you are actually playing? Count it. A good one is a page load and a button. A bad one is a launcher, an account, and a video.
• Does it work on a phone? Turn the phone sideways. If the controls are a desktop layout with a joystick bolted on, nobody tested it on a phone.
• Can you lose in an interesting way? A game where death is random has no skill in it, and a game where you cannot die has no stakes.
• What does it want from you? Cosmetics are fine. Anything that makes a paying player harder to kill is the end of the game as a contest.
