How worm io games work

Every game in this genre shares the same skeleton. You control a head, not a body. The body trails behind and grows as you eat. Your head is the only part of you that can kill you, and another worm's body is the only thing that can kill it. Bodies pass through each other, so there is no shoving and no ramming — the entire skill is getting across the front of somebody before they get across the front of you.

That single rule is why the genre survives. It takes four seconds to explain and years to stop losing to.

What makes a good worm game

Three things separate the good ones from the rest, and they are all about how size is handled.

• Does size slow you down? Most worm games punish length with speed and turn rate, which lets the biggest worm in the arena farm everyone indefinitely. Squirm.io keeps speed constant and only costs you turning circle.
• Where does dead length go? If every death returns all of its length, the arena inflates until nobody can be caught. A deliberate leak keeps the arena readable.

Squirm.io is the strictest of the lot. No power-ups, no abilities, no potions, and no purchase that changes anything about how your worm behaves — the only thing you can unlock is what it looks like. Speed is identical at length 10 and length 100,000, and two heads meeting always kills both worms regardless of size.

If you want progression systems and things to grind, Little Big Snake will suit you better and we would rather say so. If you want the pure version of the cut-and-be-cut loop, that is what this is.
